NgRx is a reactive state management library for Angular based on Redux patterns.

Core concepts:
- Store: Single source of truth for app state
- Actions: Events that describe state changes
- Reducers: Pure functions that handle state transitions
- Selectors: Functions to query specific state slices
- Effects: Handle side effects like API calls

When to use NgRx:
- Large apps with complex shared state
- Multiple components need the same data
- State needs to be predictable and debuggable
- Time-travel debugging is helpful

When NOT to use NgRx:
- Small apps with simple state
- State is local to a single component
- The boilerplate overhead isn't justified

Alternatives to consider:
- NgRx ComponentStore for local state
- Akita for simpler state management
- Plain services with BehaviorSubject

NgRx brings predictable state management to Angular applications with its Redux-inspired architecture. The combination of actions, reducers, selectors, and effects creates a clear unidirectional data flow that makes complex apps much easier to reason about. The Redux DevTools integration for time-travel debugging is incredibly useful during development. For smaller apps though, simple services with BehaviorSubjects might be sufficient.
