Emotional Design: Making Users Feel Something - Admin - 03-22-2026

Emotional design goes beyond usability to create products that users genuinely enjoy and connect with. Don Norman describes three levels of emotional design that every designer should understand.

Three levels of emotional design:
1. Visceral: First impressions based on appearance (colors, shapes, aesthetics)
2. Behavioral: The pleasure of using a well-designed product (usability, reliability)
3. Reflective: The meaning and personal significance of the product (brand, identity)

How to apply emotional design:
- Use delightful micro-interactions for positive feedback
- Add personality through illustration and copy tone
- Create moments of surprise and delight
- Design for achievement and progress
- Build trust through consistent, reliable experiences
