The Difference Between UI and UX - Explained Simply
Many people confuse UI and UX design, but they are distinct disciplines that work closely together.
UX (User Experience) Design focuses on the overall feel and flow of a product. UX designers research user needs, create user flows, wireframes, and ensure the product solves real problems.
UI (User Interface) Design focuses on the visual and interactive elements. UI designers create the look and feel, including colors, typography, buttons, icons, and layouts.
Simple analogy: If a product is a house, UX is the floor plan and room layout, while UI is the paint, furniture, and decorations.
Key differences:
- UX: Research, wireframes, user flows, information architecture
- UI: Visual design, color schemes, typography, component styling
- UX comes before UI in the design process
- Both require different skills but overlap significantly
