1 First year — common core
The first year is largely common across engineering branches and builds your fundamentals. Typical R2025 first-year courses include:
- Mathematics — Calculus / Matrices & Linear Algebra (two courses across the year)
- Physics and Chemistry for engineers (with labs)
- Communicative / Technical English
- Problem Solving & Programming (C / Python) — your first coding course, plus lab
- Engineering Graphics / Design Thinking
- Engineering Practices / Workshop and an induction / value-education component
Tip: The programming course here is where placement prep really begins. Pair it with our
free courses and
DSA practice from semester 1 — a two-year head start beats last-minute cramming.
2 Core CSE subject areas (Years 2–4)
From the second year onward the curriculum turns fully computer-science. The core areas below appear across R2025 (exact semester placement and titles are in the official syllabus):
Foundational core
- Data Structures and Design & Analysis of Algorithms
- Object-Oriented Programming (Java / C++)
- Digital Systems / Computer Organization & Architecture
- Database Management Systems (DBMS)
- Operating Systems
- Computer Networks
- Theory of Computation
Advanced & applied core
- Software Engineering and Full-Stack / Web Development
- Compiler Design
- Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning
- Data Science / Big Data, Cloud Computing, Cybersecurity (core + electives)
- Laboratories for most core subjects, a mini-project, an internship, and a final-year project work
Emerging-tech electives (Professional Electives) let you specialise — AI/ML, Data Science, IoT, Blockchain, Cybersecurity, DevOps. Choose electives that match your placement goal; see our
placement guides and
LangChain/GenAI series.
📚 Credit categories in R2025
Every course belongs to a category, and you must earn a minimum number of credits in each to graduate:
| Category | What it covers |
| HSMC | Humanities, Social Sciences & Management (English, professional ethics) |
| BSC | Basic Sciences (Maths, Physics, Chemistry) |
| ESC | Engineering Sciences & Fundamentals (programming, graphics, basics) |
| PCC | Professional Core Courses — the main CSE subjects |
| PEC | Professional Electives — your specialisation subjects |
| OEC | Open Electives — courses from other departments |
| EEC | Employability Enhancement — internship, mini & final project |
✨ What changed from R2021
- New grading letters — top grade O → S, fail shown as U (full grading guide).
- More continuous assessment and hands-on project/practical weight, less "one big exam decides everything".
- Stronger focus on emerging technologies — AI, ML, data science and cybersecurity as core and electives.
- Same CBCS credit structure and the
CGPA × 10 percentage conversion carry over.
