How the TNEA cutoff is calculated
Tamil Nadu engineering admission (TNEA) ranks candidates using a normalised cutoff out of 200, derived only from your Class 12 board marks in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry. Mathematics is taken at full weight, while Physics and Chemistry are each halved:
| Subject | Your mark | Counted as |
|---|---|---|
| Mathematics | 95 / 100 | 95 |
| Physics | 90 / 100 | 45 |
| Chemistry | 88 / 100 | 44 |
| Cutoff | 184 / 200 |
Because Maths carries double the weight of Physics or Chemistry, a strong Maths score lifts your cutoff the most.
⚠️ This is your cutoff, not a guaranteed seat. The college and branch you get depend on your rank, community and the year's competition. Closing cutoffs change every year and per college — always verify live figures and allotment on the official portal tneaonline.org.
