A single wrong letter in your name on a marksheet can snowball — passport mismatches, WES rejections, background-verification delays at joining. The fix is routine if you do it early and through the right channel.
Where errors come from
Your university records flow from the data submitted at admission (largely from your +2 records). Corrections therefore run through your college’s exam cell to the university’s records/exam section — not through any third party.
The standard correction route
- Report it via your college exam cell as soon as you notice — they raise the correction with the university with the required proofs.
- Proof documents: typically your 10th/12th certificates (the reference for name/DOB), Aadhaar, and the erroneous marksheet. Genuine name changes (as opposed to corrections) need gazette notification — a different, longer process.
- Fee & timeline: a prescribed fee applies; reissue takes time, so don’t schedule it against a visa deadline.
Why “later” is expensive
Correcting one semester marksheet is simple; correcting after the consolidated marksheet, provisional and degree are printed multiplies the paperwork. The absolute best time is the moment a wrong entry first appears — even on internal records or hall tickets (check yours here).
Consistency is the real goal
Employers and embassies check that name spelling matches across 10th, 12th, degree, passport and Aadhaar. If your documents already vary, fix towards your 10th certificate + passport combination — that pair anchors most verifications.
Exact forms and fees are set by the university and can change — your college exam cell’s current instructions are authoritative.
