One real internship beats three certificates. It is also the single strongest predictor of a fast placement โ interviewers trust shipped work.
Where internships actually come from
- Internshala: volume play โ apply to 30+, tailor the first line of each application
- LinkedIn: search "web development intern", filter past week, apply same-day (first 100 applicants matter)
- Cold email/DM (highest conversion): find small startups (10โ50 people) on LinkedIn โ message the founder: "I built [X, live link]. I'd love to intern with you for 3 months โ here's my GitHub." Small companies reply; HR portals don't
- College seniors: ask alumni where they interned โ referrals skip queues
What you need first
Two deployed projects + a clean GitHub + a one-page resume. Without these, applications are lottery tickets. Build first (see the roadmap).
Stipend reality (2026)
โน5โ15k/month typical for web dev interns; โน25โ80k at funded startups and big tech. Unpaid with real mentorship and code review can still be worth 8 weeks โ unpaid "make our Instagram posts" is not.
Convert it to an offer
Ship visibly, ask for code reviews, document what you did, and in week 10 ask directly: "Is there a path to a full-time offer?" Companies convert interns who ask.
