Every drive announcement carries an eligibility block, and every season students mis-read it — self-rejecting when eligible or discovering ineligibility at document verification. Here’s the decoder for the standard clauses.
Clause by clause
- “60% throughout / in X, 12th and 10th”: each stage evaluated separately — one stage below the bar fails the clause even with a 9 CGPA degree. For degree percentage, Anna University’s official conversion is CGPA × 10 — so 6.0 CGPA ≈ 60%; borderline cases should compute precisely, not roughly.
- “No standing arrears”: none uncleared at the drive/at joining — the standing-vs-history distinction is decisive (full breakdown).
- “Gap of not more than X years”: gaps = time not enrolled between stages (after 10th/12th/degree). Drop years for entrance prep count as gaps; year-back within a course is usually counted as extended duration instead — categories differ per company, and genuine gaps with reasons (medical, financial) typically need documentation at verification, not concealment.
- “20XX–20YY batches only”: your graduation year must match — earlier passouts don’t qualify as “freshers” for that drive.
- Branch lists: read literally — “B.E./B.Tech all branches” vs circuit-branch lists vs CS/IT-only. Adjacent branches aren’t implied.
The two rules that save seasons
Rule 1 — Never self-reject on assumption. Criteria vary per company per year; read each block fresh. When genuinely ambiguous for your case (that year-back, that conversion edge), ask the placement cell to clarify with the company — that’s their job.
Rule 2 — Never misdeclare. Every clause is verified against documents at background check; discovered discrepancies end offers post-joining too. Declare exactly, attach explanations where forms allow, and let borderline cases be judged rather than hidden. Your document folder (drive kit) is the audit trail — keep it consistent.
