No campus placement, or graduated already? Off-campus is a numbers + referrals game with actual math behind it.
The funnel math (plan for it)
Typical fresher conversion: 100 applications โ 8โ12 responses โ 4โ6 interviews โ 1โ2 offers. That is NORMAL, not failure. Budget 25โ30 applications weekly and the funnel fills in 4โ8 weeks.
Channel ranking by conversion
- 1. Referrals (10x cold apply): find alumni/2nd-degree connections at target companies โ "Hi [name], I'm applying for [role, link]. I've built [one-line proof]. Could you refer me? Happy to send my resume." 1 in 5 says yes โ employees get referral bonuses, you're doing them a half-favor
- 2. Direct career pages: Zoho, Freshworks, Chargebee, Kissflow hire freshers year-round in Chennai
- 3. LinkedIn jobs posted <24h ago โ early applications get seen
- 4. Naukri โ keep profile 100% + refreshed weekly (recency affects recruiter search)
- 5. Walk-in drives โ follow "off campus drives" Telegram channels, verify on company sites (scams exist; real drives never charge fees)
Passout-year worry
2024/2025 batch: apply anyway โ "0โ1 years" postings accept you, and skills+projects beat batch-year hesitation. Fill the gap line with what you built/learned.
Weekly rhythm
MonโWed: 15 applications + 5 referral asks. Thu: follow-ups. Fri: one mock interview. Daily: 1 DSA problem (judge). Track everything in a sheet โ momentum is the antidote to demoralization.
